As a volunteer for the NDIS Disability Group Outing, you will play a crucial role in supporting individuals with disabilities during their weekly social outings. These outings take place every Saturday from 10:30 AM to 3:30 PM, starting from the Bondi Junction Interchange, near Stand A. Your main responsibility will be to assist participants in engaging with planned activities, ensuring their safety, and contributing to an enjoyable and inclusive environment.
You will work closely with the group’s team leader, Harry, and a support worker to provide hands-on assistance throughout the day. This could involve guiding participants during walks, helping them navigate public spaces, assisting with meal times, and encouraging social interaction within the group.
Safety is a top priority, and you’ll need to be vigilant in maintaining the well-being of the participants, addressing any concerns promptly, and communicating with the team leader about any issues or changes in the participants’ needs.
In this role, you will have the opportunity to build meaningful relationships with both the participants and the staff, enhancing your skills in disability support and gaining valuable experience in a team-oriented setting. You'll also help ensure that participants feel included and engaged, making a positive impact on their social and community involvement.
Training As a volunteer, you will receive basic on-the-job training. The team leader, Harry, and a support worker will be there to guide and assist you during each outing. They will show you how to help participants with activities, ensure safety, and address any minor needs. The training is minimal as the workload is straightforward, and you will be supported by the team at all times.
