About Rainbow Giving Australia (RGA) and our objectives: Aurora Group and GiveOUT have united to form Rainbow Giving Australia, an ambitious new foundation dedicated to empowering Australian LGBTIQA+ communities. Over the past 25 years, Aurora and GiveOUT have paved the way for a stronger sector, collectively distributing over $3.5 million to 200 LGBTQIA+ community organisations and initiatives, and together, we're unstoppable.

About the Role The RGA Board is made up of nine (9) volunteer Directors, including a Chair and Deputy Chair, who provide governance and oversight for the organisation. The Treasurer is a pivotal Board role, overseeing the financial administration of RGA, advising the Board on Financial Strategy, supported by the Risk and Finance Committee.

All Directors hold office for an initial term of two years. Management of RGA operations and implementation of our strategic plan is led by our CEO, who will be in attendance for Board meetings.

Duties and responsibilities of RGA Treasurer include:

  • Ensuring that the organisation's finances and budgets are well managed, especially in the founding years, noting that the major role for RGA Directors is to govern and set the strategic direction for RGA
  • Oversight of administration for major giving programs and fund management, including contracts, investments as applicable, bank accounts, and financial advisory services such as bookkeeping and payroll
  • Support CEO in establishment of new RGA systems, processes and reporting mechanisms
  • Regular reporting to the Board on RGA’s financial position and forecast against budget.
  • Lead annual budget setting process, and oversight of annual reporting and financial compliance processes (annual financial statements, liaising with auditor, lodging annual reports to ACNC)
  • Bring information and expertise from their networks and knowledge base to contribute to strong governance and informed decision-making in the best interests of RGA

Selection criteria:

  • Knowledge of, experience with, and understanding of LGBTIQ+ communities;
  • Previous experience in board management, governance, and strategic planning;
  • Preferably CPA or CFA qualified or extensive financial management experience;
  • Strategic management experience in business, government, consultancy or non-profit organisations;
  • Willingness to operate in a hands-on operational capacity whilst RGA is establishing infrastructure, systems and processes;
  • Proven experience in the philanthropic sector, not for profit sector or allied organisations;
  • Passionate about growing RGA to create better funding outcomes for LGBTIQ+ communities and organisations;
  • Risk management experience desirable;
