The Great Stupa of Universal Compassion is a Buddhist monument just outside of Bendigo. Being the largest Stupa outside Asia it is a major tourist attraction. The Great Stupa Library is looking for library assistants. Our new library opened in April 2023, and we require help in running the library and the Stupa archives. The ongoing tasks for our team include working with the library and archival materials, customer service and general maintenance. Previous library/archive/museum experience would be much appreciated, as would the availability to work on Saturdays (3 hours).
Main Duties & Responsibilities • Sorting and shelving books. • Covering books. • Checking in and checking out the library materials. • Sorting and maintaining the materials in our archival collection. • Data entry into the library’s computer system. • Assisting the library patrons with their enquiries. • Maintenance of the library space. • Administrative tasks as assigned by the Librarian. Requirements • Present a professional appearance and a friendly manner. • Be courteous and personable when dealing with the public. • Be dependable and punctual. • Be self-directed, detail oriented and willing to take initiative. • Have at least basic computer skills. Training & Supervision • Attend general volunteer orientation. • Familiarise yourself with the Great Stupa of Universal Compassion website, and the Great Stupa Library catalogue. • Undertake Great Stupa Library training (including overview of the library collection and Stupa archives, library management system tutorial). • Supervision is undertaken by the Great Stupa Head Librarian.
