What are Learning Clubs?

Learning Clubs provide a safe, fun, and supportive learning environment where students are directly assisted by dedicated volunteer tutors with their schoolwork or participate in activities that strengthen their academic and social skills.

Learning Clubs are run outside of school hours and focus on homework, literacy, numeracy, or other, depending on need.    This extra learning and interpersonal support provided by our Learning Clubs and volunteer tutors helps students experiencing poverty with their educational and personal development, to keep up in class, and ultimately to succeed at school.

Do you have the following qualities?

  • Excellent interpersonal skills including a strong ability to communicate well with young people
  • A friendly and positive attitude
  • The ability to work independently as well as part of a team

Are you able to perform these tasks (with support and training)?

  • Assist students in completing homework tasks
  • Assist students in developing skills and knowledge in particular subject areas through structured activities
  • Model and encourage appropriate behavioural standards and build positive relationships with students
  • Club set up and pack down (e.g. tables, chairs, resources, fruit)
  • Liaise with the Club Coordinator on students' support needs and progress

Can you commit to this timeframe?  Generally, we seek a volunteer commitment of 1-2 hours (once per week) for a minimum of two school terms (around 18 weeks). Clubs typically run just after school finishes.    If the answer is yes, you are over 18 years of age and you have a passion for supporting young Australians in their academic and social development, we would love to hear from you!    Please apply now to ensure no young person misses out on this vital learning opportunity.
