Volunteer Dentist – Palmerston Oral Health Project Commitment: Half a day per week (flexible; expressions of interest welcome) Location: St Patrick’s Community Support Centre (St Pat’s)
About Us:
The Palmerston Oral Health Project is a partnership between Palmerston Association and St Patrick’s Community Support Centre (St Pat’s), evaluated by a research team from The University of Notre Dame. The project focuses on restoring the smiles of individuals in Palmerston’s residential treatment program, providing essential oral health care in a trauma-informed, compassionate environment.
We are seeking a dedicated Volunteer Dentist to work alongside our St Pat’s dental nurse in offering high-quality, pro bono dental care. This role is an opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of those who need it most.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct a pro bono dental clinic at St Pat’s Oral Health Clinic, with the aim of treating 5 clients per clinic (negotiable)
- Provide dental care to clients referred from Palmerston Farm TC ensuring the highest standards of treatment and safety
- Maintain accurate and confidential patient records, ensuring adherence to Australian healthcare regulations
- Create a welcoming and supportive atmosphere where clients feel comfortable discussing their oral health concerns without fear of judgement.
- Committed to signing and abiding by the St Pat’s Volunteer Registration Service agreement, the Palmerston agreement and relevant policies and procedures
- Provide ethical and safe trauma informed dental service in line with APHRA registration and legal responsibilities
- As the responsible dentist ensure the clinic has adequate infection control
- Provide and update Palmerston on individual police clearance, professional insurance details and professional registration details.
Requirements:
- Relevant Qualifications and registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) as a dentist.
- A compassionate, welcoming and non-judgmental approach to patient care
- Commitment to professional ethics and confidentiality
- Current professional indemnity insurance covering dental practice in Australia
