Community Committee Member
Our volunteers are assigned to a Lighthouse Home in the vicinity of their own local community. Together with others, also from surrounding areas, they form a “Community Committee”. The aim of the Committee, is to create an extra layer of support to the Young People through:
-
Regular attendance of monthly dinners
-
Participation in gardening and working bees to model and encourage a healthy home environment
-
Acquiring items or services to assist Young People to reach goals
-
Fostering and maintaining a network to connect Young People to community
-
Fundraising to support the home's program
-
Celebrating personal milestones, achievements and cultural traditions
We offer volunteer specific trainings that help to develop a deeper understanding of trauma informed care, as well as the theories and interventions behind our unique Lighthouse model. The knowledge gained from these sessions provide participants with tools that are not only applicable to interactions within a Lighthouse home, but also out in community.
This role is best suited to creative, proactive, social and curious people who are above all else, kind. We encourage people with various jobs, skills, hobbies and interests to apply.
