Do you love playing chess? We’re looking for someone special to become a Volunteer Community Visitor to Neil* for a regular chess game to help ease his loneliness.

Black Rock

Neil* would greatly benefit from a regular visitor to play chess with him. He is an 81 year old gentleman who would like to connect with someone who will visit him at his home in Black Rock to play chess. Preferably on a Monday or Wednesday afternoon. Chess has been a long-term hobby/interest of Neil’s and this would greatly assist his overall sense of wellbeing. You will need to a medium to advanced level player as Neil is very good! Due to some health issues, he can be a bit difficult to hear and communication can take time so patience is a must!

As a Volunteer Community Visitor at Better Health Network (BHN), you will be part of the Meaningful Connections Program - a team of dedicated, engaged and passionate volunteers who make positive impact on the lives of the people they visit.

Better Health Network (BHN) is a not-for-profit organisation providing a wide range of services to support healthy living, general wellbeing and social connection in our community.

Meaningful Connections is a government-funded program that matches a volunteer visitor with a lonely or isolated older person living in an aged care facility or in their own home. The Volunteer and resident are matched according to similar interests or background. The visits are regular and purely social, with the intention of developing an ongoing friendship and social connectedness.

All new Volunteers must undergo a Police Check and Working With Children’s Check and be able to commit to the role for 12 months. We provide full training and support.

Better Health Network is an equal opportunity employer. We encourage applications from individuals of diverse backgrounds, including those from the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander, Culturally and Linguistically Diverse, and LGBTI+ communities.
