Roses in the Ocean are currently seeking individuals with a lived experience of suicide to volunteer with our Peer CARE Companion in Community services in:

  • Manly
  • Dee Why
  • Narrabeen
  • Palm Beach

Our Peer CARE Companion in Community is a face-to-face community-based suicide prevention service which has been created by Roses in the Ocean to provide a safe place for people with a lived experience of suicide to connect with others with a similar lived experience of suicide – our Peer CARE Companions.

A lived experience of suicide is:

  • having experienced suicidal thoughts,
  • survived a suicide attempt,
  • supported a loved one through suicidal crisis, or
  • been bereaved by suicide.

Peer CARE Companions meet people ‘where they are at’, locally and in community. Support may vary from meeting in community setting, having a coffee with someone, supporting them to navigate additional supports, going for a walk or connecting for a chat.

If you are:

  • comfortable talking about suicide and sitting with another person’s distress
  • able to listen deeply and let people talk about their experiences, and
would like to give back, we would love to hear from you.

We provide you with a phone app to use and you control your roster availability giving you plenty of flexibility.

The following training is provided:

  • Touchpoints Workshop (4.5 hrs)
  • Self paced online modules (4-6 hrs)
  • Peer CARE Companion Workshop (6.5 hrs)
  • Service Induction and some practice calls (3 hrs)
