STEM Lunch Club Volunteer

About the school
MacKillop Education Geelong is a Foundation to Year 12 school with a capacity of 80 enrolments. Class sizes are a maximum of eight students, with a Key Teacher and Education Support assigned to each classroom. Our staff are trained in trauma-informed practice and Therapeutic Crisis Intervention and have ongoing professional development in all areas of learning and teaching, targeted interventions and wellbeing support.
Possible tasks
Volunteer responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:
- Preparing for specific STEM or coding related projects, which are fun and rewarding for the children
- Welcoming students in a warm and non-judgmental way
- Assisting students with STEM or coding projects
- Tidying up the area once pupils have returned to their classrooms, resetting tables and chairs, etc.
Key selection criteria
The Stem Lunch Club Volunteer will need:
- Knowledge and understanding of coding and or STEM projects for children and the ability to gage age appropriateness
- Understanding and commitment to the values of MacKillop Family Services
- Experience or willingness to learn about people with trauma history
- Ability to supervise children autonomously and guarantee safety
- Self-awareness and the ability to reflect critically
- The skill to connect in a playful way with children
- To commit to at least 6 months of regular volunteering
