Aged Care Volunteer Visitor - Hampton Park

Southern Migrant & Refugee Centre(SMRC)

Do you have an hour a week or fortnight to spare? Are you friendly, compassionate and passionate about building connections with older individuals?

If you're looking for a way to make a positive difference in your community, we'd love to hear from you!

The Southern Migrant and Refugee Centre (SMRC) has been operating since 1993 and is a not-for-profit community-based agency providing services to migrants and refugees living in the southern region of Melbourne.

The Southern Migrant and Refugee Centre Aged Care Visiting Volunteer Program Scheme (ACVVS) provides one to one companionship and friendship to seniors who live in residential aged care or in their own homes and either experience or are at risk of becoming socially isolated.

Clients and volunteers may participate in a variety of activities during residential aged care/home visits such as reading, friendly conversations, going for walks listening to music, cooking or sharing meals, playing board games, reminiscing or gardening.

Volunteers provide weekly or fortnightly visits and need to be able to commit for at least 12 months.

Volunteers are required to:

  • Undergo an interview and referee checks.
  • Undergo National Police Check, which will be processed by Southern Migrant and Refugee Centre free of charge.
  • Provide a Volunteer Working with Children Check (free for volunteers).
  • Provide a Volunteer NDIS Check (free for volunteers).
  • Stay in regular communication with our program staff.
  • Complete monthly online surveys to track your visits.

Please include a contact number with your expression of Interest.

This program is part of the Aged Care Volunteer Visitors Scheme (ACVVS) and the Commonwealth Home Support Program– an Australian Government Initiative.
