At Tabulam and Templer Homes for the Aged (TTHA) we have supported the community for over 50 years by offering residential and in-home care services as well as retirement living options. As a non-for-profit organisation, we have always worked with volunteers and since July 2023 we’ve connected over 100 older adults across Melbourne’s eastern and southern metro suburbs with a volunteer visitor, reducing social isolation and promoting well-being.
Do you have a kind heart and a few hours to spare? We need a caring Greek-speaking volunteer to help brighten the life of a socially isolated elderly Australian Greek lady in our community. By becoming a volunteer, you can offer a valuable, personal connection to this wonderful person who would benefit greatly from your companionship and the opportunity to share their love for chatting over a coffee
Who Are We Looking For? We are seeking volunteers who can commit to visiting a specific elderly person within the community. These visits are flexible and can be as little as once every two weeks, or as often as you are available. Your regular visits will provide the recipient with much-needed companionship, social interaction, and emotional support.
Who Can Benefit? This program targets elderly individuals, particularly those who are socially isolated and may not have regular visitors or family support. Many elderly people in the community face loneliness, and your visits can make a world of difference in their lives.
Your Role as a Volunteer: • Visit an elderly person on a regular basis—once a fortnight or as often as you like. • Offer companionship through conversation, shared activities, or simply being a friendly presence. • Help reduce feelings of isolation and loneliness, bringing joy and comfort to someone in need.
Benefits of Volunteering with TTHA: • Make a meaningful impact: Your visits will greatly improve the quality of life for the elderly person. • Flexible hours: You decide how often you visit, with a minimum commitment of once a fortnight. • Be part of a supportive team: You'll receive ongoing training and support from TTHA to ensure you feel confident and equipped in your role. • Gain valuable experience: Ideal for anyone interested in aged care, social work, or community services. • Join a vibrant, caring community: Volunteer alongside others who share your passion for helping those in need. • Centrelink requirements. Centrelink recognises TTHA as a volunteer involving organisation. This means that time spent volunteering can help meet your Centrelink work requirements
Benefits of Volunteering to You: • Experience positive empathy and personal growth: Volunteering provides a deep sense of satisfaction as you contribute to the well-being of others. • Develop new skills: Gain valuable communication and interpersonal skills that can benefit both personally and professionally. • Social connection: Meet new people and be part of a meaningful community service. • Improve well-being: Research shows that volunteering can enhance mental health and overall life satisfaction. • Build an Authentic friendship: At TTHA we pride ourselves on our person-centred approach. We match volunteers with care-recipients who share similar interests, ensuring a fulfilling and rewarding experience for both you and the person you support.
The Impact You Can Have: Your time and kindness will make a lasting difference to an elderly person who may feel isolated. By simply offering your presence, you can lift their spirits, reduce loneliness, and provide them with a renewed sense of purpose and connection to the world around them. Your visits mean more than just companionship—they give the gift of hope and human connection.
