About Us:

Our Big Kitchen is a unique, kosher not-for-profit charity dedicated to rescuing produce from landfill and empowering community members to cook healthy, delicious meals. We create a vibrant space where volunteers and participants come together to learn, share, and make a positive social impact.

The Role:

We are seeking a dedicated Community Chef to join our team. This is a unique opportunity to work in a supportive environment, with the potential to transition into a paid role if you demonstrate strong potential.

You will work under the guidance of our Head Chef, leading unskilled volunteers and overseeing cooking events where participants prepare recipes using rescued produce. Your role is to guide and support participants as they cook their dishes from scratch, ensuring a positive and educational experience.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work independently and follow directions from the Head Chef
  • Lead and support volunteers during cooking events
  • Oversee cooking activities and ensure adherence to HACCP protocols and Kosher laws
  • Guide participants in recipe preparation and kitchen safety
  • Assist with menu creation and event catering as required
  • Use basic PC skills for event management and reporting

What We’re Looking For:

  • Qualified Community Chef with a passion for community service
  • Experience in catering and menu creation is a bonus
  • Empathetic, confident, and proactive attitude
  • Willingness to learn and uphold strict HACCP and Kosher food safety standards (training provided)
  • Schedule can be discussed as it usually varies M-F and Sundays (Saturdays off)
  • Must hold a current Working With Children Check (WWCC)
  • Must have Food Safety Supervisor Certification
