Volunteer Opportunity: Writer/Communications Editor for DDEC

Do you have a passion for storytelling and a flair for writing that informs, inspires, and connects? The Darling Downs Environment Council (DDEC) is looking for a creative and enthusiastic Volunteer Newsletter Writer to help bring our mission to life. Through engaging and impactful newsletters, you’ll help share our achievements, amplify community voices, and keep our supporters connected to the work we do for our environment.

About the Role As our Writer/Communications Editor, you'll take the lead on creating engaging monthly newsletters that highlight DDEC’s programs, events, success stories, and more. Your words will help keep our community informed and emotionally connected to our work.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Writing and editing content for regular newsletters.
  • Gathering stories, updates, and photos from the DDEC team.
  • Crafting headlines, features, and brief updates that reflect DDEC’s tone and values.
  • Ensuring accuracy, clarity, and a warm, human voice in every edition.

What We’re Looking For

  • Excellent writing and editing skills, with a strong eye for tone and detail.
  • A love of storytelling and the ability to make information engaging.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
  • Experience with newsletter platforms (e.g. Action Network) is a bonus, but not required.
  • Passion for DDEC’s mission and a desire to amplify community impact.

Time Commitment

  • Approximately 3–6 hours per month
  • Minimum 6-month commitment to ensure consistency and impact
  • Flexible schedule – work when it suits you -Fully remote – contribute from anywhere
