The Laptop Initiative

The Laptop Initiative is a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to bridging the digital divide by recovering unused laptops from businesses and distributing them to charities and individuals in need. In this hands-on role, you’ll be instrumental in ensuring donated laptops have been securely wiped and ready for their new homes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and test a sample of donated laptops as part of our ongoing audit process (hardware and software)
  • Install and configure operating systems and essential software when required
  • Troubleshoot technical issues and perform basic repairs or upgrades
  • Maintain accurate records of devices processed and distributed
  • Provide occasional technical advice to recipient charities or end users

About You:

  • Experience with Windows and/or Mac laptops (basic troubleshooting, OS installation, hardware upgrades)
  • Understanding of data privacy and secure data erasure processes
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Good communication skills and a willingness to help others
