We’re seeking a highly experienced and respected medical leader to step into the State Medical Officer role—our most senior clinical position—providing strategic oversight, governance, and expert advice at an organisational level.

You’ll work alongside the CEO, Executive Team, and key health partners to ensure our services remain safe, compliant, and aligned with best practice.
What you’ll be doing
- Provide strategic medical leadership and clinical governance oversight
- Advise the CEO and Board on clinical risk, standards, and patient safety
- Play a key leadership role as a contributor to the Board’s Medical Governance Committee, providing expert clinical oversight and advice to support patient safety and organisational excellence
- Guide clinical policy, training, and competency frameworks
- Support compliance with Emergency First Aid requirements
- Partner with internal leaders and external agencies across the Queensland health system
- Contribute to disaster management and emergency response frameworks
- Lead and mentor Deputy State Medical Officer/s
What you’ll bring
- Current AHPRA registration as a Medical Practitioner
- FACEM (or equivalent specialist fellowship) highly regarded
- Proven experience in clinical governance or senior medical leadership
- Strong understanding of pre-hospital, emergency, or community care environments
- Confidence advising executives and boards
- Exceptional judgement, influence, and communication skills
