Aged Care Social Visitor - Seeking female Aboriginal volunteer

Connection | Culture | Companionship
Meaningful connections are essential to everyone's wellbeing, and that includes older people in our community. No-one should feel lonely or disconnected from the things that are important to them in their twilight years.
Mary* (name changed for privacy) is an Aboriginal elder who takes pride in her culture and heritage. She enjoys bus outings to the local shops, mingles with other residents at the aged care home over morning tea and other activities, but would greatly appreciate a regular social visit from a female Aboriginal volunteer to share her stories with, have a laugh, and make a meaningful connection based on common culture and understanding.
Visits are purely for social reasons (so there's no personal care duties, running errands or advocacy requirements in this role). Visits are encouraged on a regular basis - we'd love weekly visits if you can manage that, but fortnightly visits are okay too. Visits are spent doing activities you both enjoy - take a trip down memory lane looking at old photos, share stories, listen to music, go for a walk in the garden, share a hobby, or play a card game or do a puzzle together.
It's all about connection, companionship and community.
Volunteers undergo a police check and complete a short online training program before commencing.
Register your interest now and an ACVVS Coordinator will get in touch to arrange an interview at a mutually convenient time.
