To provide a regular, one to one visit to a socially isolated person who lives in their home whose quality of life would be improved by friendship and companionship.
Observe occupational health and safety procedures to ensure client, volunteer and other people are safe whilst visiting.
Note: When in the home, your role is to provide friendship and support to another person, as you would for a friend.
You could go to a cafe for a cuppa, have a cuppa at home, play board games or visit the shops. It is something that you mutually choose to do together to help the client feel cared for and part of the community.
It is important that you do not get involved with the client’s financial affairs, any family situations, not come between the client and their family, or give advice to the client regarding any matter.
