Youth Frontiers is a NSW Government funded mentoring program for young people 12-16 years old who would benefit from a mentoring relationship.
We are now looking for volunteers from the community that are interested in making a difference in the life of a young person that is under-engaged either from school or the community in the areas of NEPEAN, BLUE MOUNTAINS AND HAWKESBURY. We also accept those enrolled in study and requiring placement hours.
Mentors will spend 1 hour per week over a 6 month period (commencing shortly) working with a young person as a positive role model and sounding board. Each session will involve a quick activity to get the conversation going with the rest of the time being at your disposal. Your mentee might feel motivated to talk about what they want to do for a living when they finish school, or they may feel a little stressed with school and ask for help with something they are working on, or they may just want to play a game of cards and chat about their week. The journey of your mentoring can move in many directions.
OCTEC will also be running group workshops on relevant topics throughout the year and will be available for support every step of the way. You don’t have to be an expert or come from a particular profession. You might be retired, studying, a stay at home parent or just have flexible work hours. We are looking for real people from the community - your life experience and skills can make a genuine difference to a young person in your community.
Mentoring will commence in the early 2021 and will continue for approx. 6 months. If you have any other questions, please feel free to email. If COVID-19 restrictions prevent face to face contact we will be continuing mentoring online.
