Mentor and provide additional academic support for students from a refugee/asylum seeker background at primary and secondary schools is sought. Be able to nurture student's well-being and help build self- esteem. Participate in training and commit to a minimum of 3 hours per week in a school, during school terms for one year to provide continuity for the students. We require volunteers in the Fairfield, Blacktown, Mount Druitt and Westmead areas.

Desirable skills: -

  • Have an interest in refugee issues and needs.
  • The ability to treat vulnerable people with respect.
  • Active listening skills and patience, especially facilitating student learning
  • Willingness to work in a classroom environment under teach guidance and direction

A Working with Children Check will be required.

If you are successful in your application to be a Mercy Connect volunteer and approval has been given for volunteering to begin at a school, for your protection we ask you before you enter any school campus to confirm the COVID safety protocols for the school.
