If you believe in the importance of individual rights and empowerment then this is the volunteer opportunity for you.

About Us

Citizen Advocacy Launceston Region is a non-profit organization committed to promoting the rights and well-being of people with disabilities. We believe that everyone deserves to be heard, respected, and supported in making decisions that impact their lives. Our program matches a volunteer advocate with individuals with disabilities from our community, creating long-term, one-to-one relationships built on trust, care, and mutual understanding.

Your Involvement

As a Citizen Advocate, you will be a trusted friend and ally to someone who may face challenges in navigating systems, advocating for their rights, or simply finding their place in the community. You will spend time together building a relationship based on trust and mutual interests. You will negotiate visits to what suits you both, knowing this may change from time to time and that more or less time may be needed. By being there consistently, you can help the person explore new opportunities, make informed decisions, and amplify their voice in matters that affect their lives.

The Perfect Match

"Being an advocate has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. I've had the opportunity to support and empower someone who really needed it. It's incredible to see the positive impact we can make in each other's lives by just being there for them."

Citizen Advocates come from all walks of life, are all ages and each brings with them a range of life experiences and expertise. Citizen Advocacy can be fun, a source of personal development, a chance to give back to the community, build friendships and use your skills. Many Citizen Advocates have had no significant involvement with people with disabilities before. Training and ongoing support will be provided by the Citizen Advocacy Launceston office.
