As their advocate you would take a personal interest in what they do, help them engage in their local community and ensure that their life runs that bit smoother.
What is a Citizen Advocate
We are looking for someone to befriend a person with a disability, help them connect with their local community, help improve their quality of life and be willing to speak up for them if needed.
No qualifications are required but your desire to help others.
Orientation and ongoing support in order to fulfill this role will be provided to the right applicant.
Your Involvement
As a Citizen Advocate, you will be a trusted friend and ally to someone who may face challenges in navigating systems, advocating for their rights, or simply finding their place in the community.
You will spend time together building a relationship based on trust and mutual interests.
You will negotiate visits to what suits you both, knowing this may change from time to time and that more or less time may be needed. By being there consistently, you can help the person explore new opportunities, make informed decisions, and amplify their voice in matters that affect their lives.
