PALS (Participate and Learn Skills) - Assistant

The PALS program provides a range of activities for primary school aged children to improve their confidence, self-esteem, life and community participation skills. Outgoing friendly people are needed to assist the PALS Co-ordinator and staff. Personal requirements include : ▪ Experience guiding children and youth between the ages of 6 and 12 years old ▪ An outgoing and friendly disposition and an ability to interact with people from diverse cultures and backgrounds ▪ Good organisational skills ▪ Clean and casual neat appearance ▪ Demonstrate ability to support programs for children and families ▪ Ability to foster team participation and involvement ▪ Must be non-judgmental, non-discriminatory and be accepting and tolerant of others ▪ Ability to Network with other groups ▪ Be adaptable in performing your role (particularly related to changes in procedures and/or processes) ▪ Ability to communicate well, both written and verbal ▪ Be willing to abide by the Code of Conduct ▪ Ability to work with minimal supervision ▪ Must be reliable and punctual Desirable skills include : ▪ Awareness of workplace Health and Safety and the requirements of Equal Opportunity Act and Disability Discrimination Act ▪ Ability to relate to people from diverse backgrounds ▪ Experience with successfully workingas part of a team Knowledge of: o Local community resources o Social justice o Customer service practices and principles o Child development o Mandatory reporting o WHS o Access and Equity Duties include :
- Assist with set up of rooms and outdoor areas as required
- Preparing and packing up individual activities
- Welcoming participants and families
- Interact with participants / perform your duties as required for the session
- Assist with pack up of rooms and outdoor areas as required
- Ensure coordinator has been informed of any issues that may have arisen during the session / get feedback regarding previous notified issues (if required)
