Research shows that social interaction helps people with dementia maintain better cognitive function for longer. This role offers social support to people living with dementia in the Brisbane North community with centres at Enoggera, Northgate & Aspley.
QSHBA is a volunteer-run not-for-profit group that is very active in the community. We have 4 permanent bands that perform regularly: the Queensland Mounted Infantry Historical Troop Band, the Queensland Show Band, the Bayside Youth Band and QSHBA Drum Corps. With current volunteers focused on teaching and performance roles, we need 1 or more volunteers to help keep us going behind the scenes, assisting with clerical duties, band room maintenance, as well as library and asset management.
Bayside Carols, presented by Queensland Services Heritage Band Association, is a favourite annual Christmas tradition for families in the Wynnum-Manly area. We will have the music covered, but need an Event Coordinator to organise this year's event held at George Clayton 'Lighthouse' Park, on 22 December. The volunteer/s will need to be ready to jump in now to start organising vendors, promoting the event and manage the site on the night to ensure another successful Bayside Carols event.

We are currently looking for someone to provide music and entertainment to residents during our regular sing-a-longs. You will be required to assist staff in the preparation and clean-up of activities, playing music and tunes that our residents know and encouraging participation and engagement.

The facility caters for men with dementia, and special care groups such as homeless men and those with mental health or complex health issues.
