The Burnie Athletic Club was established in 1887 and has conducted carnivals every New Year’s day since with the exception of the war and years of inclement weather – an event that pre-dates the modern Olympics. The events held at our Carnival include running, cycling and woodchopping where the blue ribbon events are the time honoured Burnie Gift and Burnie Wheel race. The Club boasts a strong membership along with an active involvement in the community.
