About this opportunity
The St Vincent de Paul Society in Bellingen is looking for people with compassion, a non-judgmental attitude and most of all a good and kind heart to join a group that assists people who are disadvantaged or in need in the local area.
Emergency Assistance is provided by our member volunteers who respond to the needs of their local communities in groups known as ‘Conferences’. They give immediate short term help providing food vouchers, assisting with bills or other pressing needs. We advocate on their behalf if they need help.
Our Vision is to give people in need a ‘Hand Up’, assisting them to become independent and self-sufficient. We work with and refer people being assisted to other charities and agencies, if needed.
Vinnies are often the first point of contact for people seeking help and sales from our Shops across the Mid North Coast region fund all the assistance given out.
Your personal attributes to perform this care and support role will be a genuine desire to serve those in need, an ability to maintain confidences and respect for the privacy of those we assist, ability to listen and respond without judging and a willingness to join with others to support those in need.
We are seeking volunteers who could help out for a couple of hours on a Tuesday afternoon between 1.00 and 3.00 pm. With enough new members we hope to create a roster which would see members being on call once every 2 or 3 weeks.
You will be trained and mentored at every stage. You will enjoy the support and community life that is part of our group. You will gain a greater understanding of poverty and disadvantage and how it impacts people’s lives and you will experience what it means to make a difference in someone’s life.
You will meet some wonderful people and you will feel a great sense of achievement when you have given a hand up to someone and not just a hand out.
We are a very friendly group in Bellingen with an emphasis on sharing, supporting and caring for each other. We very much look forward to meeting you and you can be assured of a warm and friendly welcome from our team.
If this opportunity excites you, we are only a phone call away. We look forward to welcoming you to the Society.
