One Tree Matters - Planting Rainforests on the Cassowary Coast

Environment & Conservation Short Term Silky Oak, QLD

About this opportunity

Brettacorp – One Tree Matters

Thanks to the Community Sustainability Action Grant, Conservation Volunteers are joining with not-for-profit community group Brettacorp Inc. to undertake revegetation efforts on two prime areas of land situated in the heart of Cassowary Country, North Queensland.

The Southern Cassowary is listed as a nationally endangered, with less than 2200 individual birds believed to be left in the wild. By planting trees within this region of Tully, we will be increasing and connecting habitat for these special birds, as well as providing more available food resources.

Volunteers will be based on a site North of the Tully River, preparing and planting native trees that have been collected from local sources and propagated by local volunteers.

Accommodation will be camping for the week at the nearby picturesque Murray Falls, a large grassy area surrounded by rainforest, with two short walks nearby taking you to different sections of the falls.

For those wishing to travel with us from Cairns and stay for the week, we ask volunteers to contribute a cost of $208/week, which will cover food, transport (from Cairns to site and back) and accommodation.
Locals, or those wishing to provide their own food, transport and accommodation, are welcome to join for free!
Days are 8:30am - 4pm.
