AMEP TAFE NSW Volunteer Tutor (NSW residents only)

Amep Tafe Nsw

The Adult Migrant English Program (AMEP) funded by the Department of Home Affairs, is available to eligible migrants and refugees wanting to learn pre-vocational English language and settlement skills, to participate socially and economically within Australian society. The AMEP Volunteer Tutor Program, AMEP Volunteer Tutor Program - TAFE NSW, is a sub-program of the AMEP. It offers informal language tuition for migrants and refugees, provided by trained volunteers on a one-to-one basis, outside the classroom environment either online or face to face.

Why become an AMEP volunteer tutor?

It provides:

• a great opportunity to get to know other cultures while helping AMEP eligible students settle into their new life in Australia

• a chance to give something back to the community and make a difference to the people in the community

• an opportunity to develop new skills or enhance existing knowledge and experience.

How much time do I need to dedicate?

When volunteers join the program, they make a six-month commitment to meet with their student, for at least one hour per week. AMEP Volunteer Tutor Program sessions are negotiated between the AMEP volunteer tutor and the student - with the flexibility to reschedule sessions when required. The sessions can be face to face in a mutually agreed public location or can be delivered online.

What experience do I need?

No previous experience is needed. Just a desire to help new migrants settle and gain confidence in speaking and listening to English.
As an AMEP volunteer tutor, you will receive training with a short online self-paced course, then access to resources and further support such as workshops run by AMEP teachers.
