You must be a warm positive person fluent in Arabic and English, with a commitment to social inclusion and working at a grass roots level to create social and, eventually, policy change for people seeking asylum.

At our picnics, Muslim ladies feel more comfortable chatting with other Arabic-speaking women so they interact very little with others who attend our picnics to genuinely offer them friendship.

We know by experience that the active participation of volunteers fluent in Arabic and English makes the connections easier.

This is essential to maintain the interest of our all guests, Muslim and non –Muslim, beyond one or two picnics.

All you have to do is attend picnics once a month, and other social events we may create (like a family trip to the beach). You will be spending the majority of your time at a picnic socializing with the Muslim women, developing friendships and facilitating conversations with others; we are open to your ideas.

Female volunteers may be more successful in breaking down barriers, but we welcome all Arabic-speaking volunteers.

We, and all our guests and volunteers, would love getting to know you and developing a friendship with you.

Land of Welcome succeeds when real friendships develop in the personal lives of those who participate.

The picnics then become a celebration of that friendship.

Our picnics are usually on the first Sunday of the month from 1pm to sometime between 3pm and 4pm.

Based upon your other time commitments, we would love you to contribute to other aspects of our strategy both for your valuable insights and that we may get to know you better.

To create flexibility with other commitments you have and so you can work with a partner we are advertising for three volunteers to fill this position.

Your contribution to the achievement of Land Of Welcome’s objectives will be recognized by a formal certificate of appreciation. A job well done may open new opportunities for you with people within our network who might benefit from your skills.
