    We require a commitments of approximately 3 hours per fortnight, day and time to be confirmed.

    YAAPers will be provided with training in areas including: public speaking, peer support, facilitation, communication and campaigning.

  • Reimbursement

    YAAP is a voluntary program and therefore unpaid. Reimbursement of travel costs to attend workshops will be considered in some circumstances.

What is YAAP?

YoungLions Advocacy and Advocacy Program (YAAP) is a unique voluntary program for young people (16-24) who are passionate about social change and getting young people’s voices heard. Over the year YAAPers develop a campaign, attend camps, training and workshops, Whitelion events and much more.

The goal of YAAP is for young people to develop leadership and advocacy skills and create social connections between a diverse group of young people. YAAPers are provided with many opportunities to share their ideas and stories with a range of stakeholders within the organisation and community.

What We're Looking For

Young people who have a passion for social change; an interest in supporting Whitelion to become a youth-led organisation; interest/experience in campaigning; good communication and team work skills (or willingness to develop these skills); ability to work with visual arts; organisational skills; ability/interest in learning to facilitate small groups; ability to use social media and information gathering; willingness to attend two camps (May and September); willingness to participate in training opportunities; commitment to meet with group for at least 3 hours a fortnight (DAY & TIME TBC)

What is involved?

As a YAAPer you are expected to participate in fortnightly workshops held at the Whitelion Office in West Melbourne; attend two camps run by Whitelion (Leadership Camp and National Camp); Participate in training opportunities and community events; create and deliver a campaign as a team; participate in consultation and co-design opportunities and projects related to Whitelion; develop personal goals
