About this opportunity
Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of young people?
Youth Frontiers is a NSW Government funded mentoring program for young people in years 8 or 9 at high school. We are now looking for volunteers from the community that are interested in making a difference in the life of a young person at risk of disengaging (either from school or the community).
Mentors will spend 1 hour a week over a 6 month period (during school hours) working with a young person as a positive role model and sounding board. Each session will involve a quick activity to get the conversation going with the rest of the time being at your disposal. Your mentee might feel motivated to talk about what they want to do for a living when they finish school, or they may feel a little stressed with school, or they may just want to play a game of cards and chat about their week. The journey of your mentoring can move in many directions.
You don’t have to be an expert or come from a particular profession. You might be retired, studying, a stay at home parent or just have flexible work hours. We are looking for real people from the community - your life experience and skills can make a genuine difference to a young person in your community.
There is training and support every step of the way.
If you are interested in finding out more, please contact Julie Koorey on (02) 9623 6886 and we can chat about how you can change someone’s life.
