Migrant Support Long Term Liverpool, NSW

About this opportunity

A newly arrived refugee family needs education support for their three children. The children are 15, 11 and 9 years old and they require assistance in completing their various homework tasks. As these children come from a migrant background, not only are they learning English as an additional language, but they have had disrupted schooling before coming to Australia and have limited access to homework help at home. Help may include language support, numeracy, going over lesson content from school or helping with assignments.

Volunteers are required to have a tertiary education qualification or at least be studying, have an excellent command of the English language, both spoken and written, and be adept at working in an educational environment with children and teenagers. You will also need to be of a kind and caring nature, have plenty of patience and a desire to see children achieve their best.

This is a very rewarding and positive role that requires an ongoing commitment to weekly visits, for at least 6 months. You would need to be over 18 years of age, be willing to undertake a Working With Children Check and National Police Check, as well as provide 2 referees.

All Volunteers receive training, induction and workplace health and safety instruction before they start.

If you would like to make a difference to a child’s life and encourage them on to receiving a better education, we would love to hear from you.
