Volunteers provide support as part of a team, to people with a life limiting illness with little hope of a cure. They provide emotional and practical support to the whole unit of care including dying people, carers and family. Volunteers need to be good listeners and comfortable with grief and loss. Volunteers will be asked to provide support in a range of settings including in people’s homes, within designated palliative care unit, aged care facilities and other health care facilities as required.
People who have skills in complementary therapies are incl. massage, reflexology, reiki, are encouraged to apply as well as those with creative writing skills as we plan to develop a strong life review/life story program. Men are also asked to apply as often men prefer company with other men to engage in meaningful conversation and similar interests.
