To become an accredited Lifeline Telephone Crisis Supporter you will be required to undertake a specialist workplace-based training program, called Crisis Supporter Workplace Training, in telephone crisis support skills. This comprehensive and highly regarded course covers a range of crisis support skills, suicide intervention skills and community issues. Training at Lifeline Melbourne may complement other training courses in counselling and psychology. The training involves a varied learning environment. This includes elements of online learning, lectures, group work and student placement. It takes approximately 12 months to complete the training which includes a probationary period of 62 hours over nine months.
This course, which includes recognised Units of Competency, is designed to train and accredit you to provide care and support to people in crisis. Crisis Supporters from diverse backgrounds and of all ages volunteer with Lifeline Melbourne. Our volunteers may be studying, employed or retired, however they all bring a wealth of experience to their role. It’s not necessary to have counselling experience or skills in order to be selected for training. We are looking for volunteers who have empathy, a mature outlook, and can listen and respond warmly to the concerns of others. Being a Crisis Supporter is an important commitment. If you are considering applying for this course, please read the following information and attachments carefully prior to submitting your application. Please note course fee apply. To apply, you must be an Australian resident.
Wesley has a limited scholarship program for Lifeline Telephone Crisis Supporter Workplace Training.
