Youth Street Teams operate every Friday and Saturday night between 11pm-5am, 16-20 volunteers over the age of 18 head out on foot and in vehicles to the streets of Melbourne CBD, and engage with vulnerable and intoxicated young people who have come into the City from the suburbs for a night out.
The Salvation Army Melbourne operates a Coffee van on Friday and Saturday nights at the Queen Street Maxi Cab rank, outside CQ Night Club. The Van sells hotdogs to people exiting nightclubs and provides free coffee to taxi drivers to encourage them to use the taxi rank. The coffee van is a social enterprise, where the profits go directly to support Melbourne’s homeless community. The Lighthouse coffee van operates from 11pm to 4am, Friday and Saturday nights.
The Youth Bus is a safe place for Melbourne's homeless and marginalised youth. A fully refurbished motorcoach parks on Flinders Street every weeknight equipped with a kitchenette, computers, Xbox gaming consoles, a DJ booth, chill out areas and private counselling area. The Youth Bus enables Melbourne Project 614 workers and volunteers to build relationships with vulnerable and isolated young people with the intent to improve their pathways to accommodation, employment and education.
The Lighthouse Café is a welcoming venue providing breakfast, lunch, coffee and tea, as well as support to people from all walks of life, especially those living on the margins of society. Lighthouse Cafe’s primary purpose is about building relationships with people and developing a strong sense of belonging and acceptance for all and to assist them out of their current state of homelessness. The Lighthouse Cafe operates from 8.15am to 2pm, Monday-Friday.
Position: Whole in the Wall Café runs out of the Lighthouse Café. The barista’s make the coffee’s for the Lighhouse Café, as well as staffing a social enterprise take-away coffee shop. We are looking for positive and welcoming people to greet customers, take coffee orders, make coffee and chat to people about The Salvation Army programs.
The Salvation Army Melbourne operates a supermarket style service where Melbourne’s most disadvantaged can receive essential pantry and personal items and clothes for themselves and their families. The Marketplace offers a wide selection of food and other necessities to those who need them most, as well as an opportunity for staff and trained volunteers to chat with clients about deeper needs that the person may be currently experiencing. The Marketplace operates from 9am to 1pm, Monday-Friday.
Food is at the heart of what we do at The Salvation Army Melbourne, as it provides a focal point for hospitality, and community for those that are vulnerable and isolated. The Kitchen is a warm and welcoming space where our chef, volunteers and clients prepare around 3,000 meals per week. The Kitchen is open from Monday - Friday, with the food preparation beginning at 9am and continuing until approx. 2pm.
Night Watch extends the capabilities of the Mobile Outreach and Youth Street Teams services to operate 7 nights per week. Night Watch consists of 2 qualified & experienced Salvation Army workers & a team of trained volunteers who are based at 69 Bourke Street, Melb, from 11pm-7am, as well as being mobile in Melb CBD. The teams pro-actively engage with people on the streets, responding to calls from Police, Emergency Services and the general public.
Program Summary: The Night Café will build upon the existing daytime Lighthouse Café operation to provide a welcoming, safe and inclusive place for anyone homeless or at risk of homelessness in the City of Melbourne. Based at 69 Bourke Street Melbourne, the space will be open from 11PM-7am, 7 nights a week and will be staffed by 2 trained Salvation Army staff and supported by a team of 3-5 volunteers each night (partial cover of the shift is also welcome)
Volunteers required to provide social support to Seniors in centre based activity program. People with skills to run activities are encouraged to apply.

Hills Community Aid are looking for volunteers who can assist participants in our Computers with a Cuppa Program. Computers with a Cuppa is a program that assists our community with their technological questions in a safe and relaxed environment.
