We are seeking a Volunteer Driver for Friday afternoons 2:00 pm to drive our Social Support Group clients home. As a Volunteer Driver your role is to work closely with the volunteer jockey to ensure the safety of our clients during transportation. Volunteers are provided with full training.
Assist disabled clients with horse riding sessions. Prepare horses for classes and lead riders, arena set-up, horse training, horse floating. The Youth Bus is a safe place for Melbourne's homeless and marginalised youth. A fully refurbished motorcoach parks on Flinders Street every weeknight equipped with a kitchenette, computers, Xbox gaming consoles, a DJ booth, chill out areas and private counselling area. The Youth Bus enables Melbourne Project 614 workers and volunteers to build relationships with vulnerable and isolated young people with the intent to improve their pathways to accommodation, employment and education.
Youth Street Teams operate every Friday and Saturday night between 11pm-5am, 16-20 volunteers over the age of 18 head out on foot and in vehicles to the streets of Melbourne CBD, and engage with vulnerable and intoxicated young people who have come into the City from the suburbs for a night out.
The Salvation Army Melbourne operates a Coffee van on Friday and Saturday nights at the Queen Street Maxi Cab rank, outside CQ Night Club. The Van sells hotdogs to people exiting nightclubs and provides free coffee to taxi drivers to encourage them to use the taxi rank. The coffee van is a social enterprise, where the profits go directly to support Melbourne’s homeless community. The Lighthouse coffee van operates from 11pm to 4am, Friday and Saturday nights.
The Salvation Army Melbourne operates a supermarket style service where Melbourne’s most disadvantaged can receive essential pantry and personal items and clothes for themselves and their families. The Marketplace offers a wide selection of food and other necessities to those who need them most, as well as an opportunity for staff and trained volunteers to chat with clients about deeper needs that the person may be currently experiencing. The Marketplace operates from 9am to 1pm, Monday-Friday.
Night Watch extends the capabilities of the Mobile Outreach and Youth Street Teams services to operate 7 nights per week. Night Watch consists of 2 qualified & experienced Salvation Army workers & a team of trained volunteers who are based at 69 Bourke Street, Melb, from 11pm-7am, as well as being mobile in Melb CBD. The teams pro-actively engage with people on the streets, responding to calls from Police, Emergency Services and the general public.
