Updating information on environmental and health impacts of gardening products

Sustainable Gardening Australia maintains a database of over 1000 products used in gardening. The database records the impacts of the chemicals in the garden products and their safety for humans and the environment and rates them using a 6-star system. The products need to be re-examined by looking at information and Material Safety Data sheets provided by the manufacturers, registering the impacts on humans, wildlife and waterways and entering the information into a Microsoft Access database.

Community Gardens - Kooragang

The Community Gardens located on Ash Island was built largely by volunteers. The gardens provide a stimulating and safe work environment, where social interaction and friendly, stress free atmosphere are as important as the production of healthy, chemical-free food. Community gardens covering 0.3 hectares were established in 1998 to encourage more visitors to City Farm and to give them a greater awareness and appreciation of the surrounding wetlands.
