Claudette’s Story

I have been volunteering at Bethanie Kwinana Social Centre for 13 years assisting mature aged members to get to and from the Centre for their social visits.

Every Wednesday and Thursday the bus picks me up at 9.00am then we go to each of the member’s houses to pick them up and take them back to the Centre. At the Centre they enjoy morning tea, activities, lunch and afternoon activities before we take them back to their homes at 2.30pm.

I first started volunteering at the Centre when my children left home and I had retired. The initial decision was made because it was so close to home, but now it has become an integral part of my week.

The most rewarding part for me is the relationships I have forged with the people I see twice a week. I never anticipated that volunteering would become such an important part of my life.
