Emotional support and companionship is so important for senior Australians, particularly following the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. In recognition of this, and to address the decline in volunteers during this time, the Australian Government is encouraging the return of volunteers and encouraging new volunteers to residential aged care facilities (RACFs).
Annie is a kind and gentle lady her 40’s living in the Midland area. She has mild intellectual disability and seeks an advocate to be her friend and confidante. Annie is happy and sociable and loves animals! She would enjoy spending time going out for lunch, walking, or shopping. Annie likes preparing and cooking meals and browsing in charity shops. By becoming Annie’s advocate, you could offer her the companionship she needs as well as being someone to offer support and advice when needed.
Mia is a cheerful lady in her early 40’s living in Wilson. Mia is a sociable, friendly lady that has a love for music, dancing and meeting new people. She has a mild intellectual disability and a visual impairment which impacts her confidence. She would greatly benefit with a friendship from a caring advocate to help her navigate this. Mia would love an advocate that would enjoy lunch, coffee and walks with her. She would love an advocate who would help her to feel safe while crossing the road
Jodie is a gentle and cheerful lady in her early 60’s, living in Wilson. She has a mild intellectual disability. Jodie is seeking an advocate to be her friend and confidante who could enjoy social activities with her and keep her engaged in the community. Jodie is an avid reader and award-winning painter! Jodie likes music and dancing (adores ABBA), tenpin bowling and watching the West Coast Eagles. With an advocate she would enjoy coffee, chats, shopping, and a manicure here and there too!
Are you community minded with a strong sense of social justice? Would you like to make a difference in the life of a person with an intellectual disability? We are looking for volunteers in your area to come forward and support people in your local community. The role of a volunteer advocate typically takes 2-3 hours of your time, either weekly or fortnightly but those few hours can have a significant impact on someone who may be feeling isolated, lonely, and vulnerable.
Citizen Advocacy is seeking volunteer advocates based in the Perth area who want to make a difference in the life of someone with intellectual disability. As an advocate you will be well placed to assist in community inclusion and social acceptance by empowering the person with intellectual disability and helping them to engage with their local community.
We currently require a Volunteer Mentor to assist Learner Drivers from underprivileged, marginalized and culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds to gain supervised driving experience to satisfy the Queensland Graduated Learner Driver requirements. *Automatic vehicles will be supplied.
Volunteers in this role support young learner drivers through driver mentoring and supervision necessary to obtain the VicRoads mandated 120 hours of driving practice. Alternatively, you may like to assist a disadvantaged older learner driver in our P21 program to become proficient in a vehicle so they can get their P's. You'll be matched to a driver so you both develop that mentoring relationship and you'll use one of our fleet vehicles in all sessions.
