Devonport is a city in the north-west of Tasmania, located at the mouth of the Mersey River. With a population of almost 27,000 people, Devonport is the 6th largest local government in Tasmania. The role of local government is to handle community needs, like waste collection, public recreation facilities and town planning. Devonport City Council provides a wide-range of services that support the functioning of a vibrant local community; this includes the Devonport Regional Gallery, Bass Strait Maritime Centre, Visitor Information Centre, as well as sporting and recreation facilities.
