Organisation Description: OzHarvest is Australia’s leading food rescue organisation, collecting quality excess food from commercial outlets and delivering it directly to more than 1300 charities supporting people in need across the country. Each week, we positively impact our environment by prevent tonnes of good food from going to landfill. OzHarvest operates nationally, rescuing over 180 tonnes of food each week from over 3,500 food donors including supermarkets, hotels, airports, wholesalers, farmers, corporate events, catering companies, shopping centres, delis, cafes, restaurants, film and TV shoots and boardrooms. Our regularfood deliveries to charities enable them to reduce their food spending and redirect vital funding into education, rehabilitation and other services. Education is crucial to our mission to help enable positive change for vulnerable people and for our planet. Our curriculum-aligned education program FEAST, which is available nationally, inspires primary school students to eat healthy, waste less and be change-makers in their local community. In Cairns, we rescue between 2-3 tonnes of quality food each week from almost 30 donors, diverting it from landfill, instead redistributing it to over 35 charities who can then provide their clients with vital and free food relief.
