Lifeline Mid Coast

Lifeline’s reputation as an acknowledged leader in crisis support and suicide prevention, in part, has been establish by the work of Centres like Lifeline Mid Coast with our commitment in seeking to provide high standards of crisis support and suicide prevention services. Lifeline was built on a commitment to reach out to those in crisis. As part of the Lifeline network, we are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, offering real support when difficulties seem overwhelming. Established in 1988, Lifeline Mid Coast contributes to the National Lifeline 13 11 14 service. Together the Lifeline network answers about 1 million callers in crisis each year. As part of the Lifeline network, Lifeline Mid Coast answers over 18,000 callers in crisis every year. Our Centre’s commitment to our community has led to the provision of the following services: Hospital to Recovery: A peer based after care services for those who have attempted suicide, incorporating partnerships with the Local Area Health District and the Port Macquarie Endeavour Clubhouse. Eclipse: An 8 week closed support group for those who have survived a suicide attempt. Support After Suicide: An open support group for those bereaved by suicide. Community Leadership programs: Develop in response to natural disasters, these programs a time specific and are designed to provide crisis support, training and ongoing skills development aimed at building community resilience and connections. Community Events: Walk Out of the Shadows in an annual event that highlights Suicide Prevention Awareness Day. Our Christmas memorial services located at Port Macquarie and Tinonee. Community Training: Lifeline Mid Coast has a range of community training programs including: Accidental Counsellor; DV-alert; DV-Aware; and Psychological First Aid. Lifeline Mid Coast remains a volunteer based organisation funded mostly by our seven Lifeline Shops located in Forster, Taree, Wingham, Wauchope, Port Macquarie and Kempsey. We have a staff of approx. 33 staff and approx. 400 volunteers. We service a population of about 190.000 people living on the Mid North Coast of NSW. The area we cover is from Bulahdelah in the south to Nambucca Heads in the north.
