Sutherland Shire Refugee Connection (SSRC) is a 100% volunteer community-based organisation formed to assist people with a refugee or refugee-like background to settle in Sutherland Shire. We want to make the area a true Refugee Welcome Zone as we believe that Sutherland Shire has much to offer and also much to gain from increased cultural diversity. We work with and supplement the work of professional settlement services by assisting with practical issues such as accommodation, linking families to education, employment, English language classes and other services as required. We also help orientate the family to the local area and connect them with relevant social activities and places of worship according to their interests. Volunteers wishing to work directly with participants must be prepared to come to Sutherland Shire but if you are unable to do that you can support our work through indirect support activities such as managing social media profiles or writing grant applications, for example.
