St Vincent de Paul Society Education Programs

The Maidstone Education Program has a focus on the four pillars of literacy – reading, writing, speaking and listening. It started in Term 3, 2019 and supports around 30 students. The students come from four different primary schools in the area, and diverse cultural backgrounds. The program is supported by a team of 15 adult volunteers. They meet each Thursday during the Victorian school term from 3.30pm -4.45pm. The program assists students with literacy and numeracy, as well as general social, emotional and academic support. This holistic approach helps to improve overall educational outcomes. Our paid coordinator and trained volunteers provide a friendly learning environment. The education program team aims to improve the learning skills and attitudes of students, increase confidence when interacting with adult volunteers and peers, encourage collaboration, promote social inclusion, develop a growth mindset and showcase best learning practices.
