Museum of Tropical Queensland (MTQ)

The Museum of Tropical Queensland is the only branch of the Queensland Museum in North Queensland. Located on Flinders Street in Townsville, MTQ looks across Ross Creek in the city. Museum of Tropical Queensland has been important place of learning and tourist attraction in Townsville since its opening in 1985. The present museum opened in 2000. The new and modern displays explore life in the tropics from pre-historic times to the modern era. The permanent exhibitions HMS Pandora, Discover Tropical Queensland, Colors of the Reef reflect the focus of MTQ on research and interpreting the cultural and natural heritage of Tropical Queensland. We also host a series of visiting displays from other museums. This brings fresh and engaging content that appeals to local and touring visitors.
