The Broken Hill Art Exchange is a charity that provides opportunities for artists through live-in residencies with studio facilities in Broken Hill, regional NSW. We also deliver a wide range of community art programs, projects and exhibitions. A multidisciplinary arts organisation, we are driven to provide artists with revenue opportunities, cost-effective facilities and bring art to the community in an accessible manner. The Art Exchange also partners with the ARC-funded Environmental Research Initiative for Art (ERIA) to bring the Desert Equinox exhibition to Broken Hill each year. This is a range of large, environmentally-focused public art installations using renewable, sustainable energy systems. The Desert Equinox is celebrating its tenth anniversary in late September 2022 and was a pioneer in the invigoration of public spaces with active sculptures. The Art Exchange has also developed an Art Academy where artists from diverse disciplines bring their skills to deliver short workshops for the community. The Art Exchange is entirely volunteer run with an enthusiastic and talented team who believe that art makes the world a better place, unites people and should be accessible to all.
