WHO IS MAKOU? We are Makou, a charity empowering women in emerging countries and rural communities. We co-create lifestyle and homeware pieces for the curious and conscious, collaborating with a diversity of artisans to forge a path into a mindful future. We focus on working with female-led enterprises and artisans, driven by the desire to provide financial independence and opportunities for marginalised individuals through honouring their ancestral crafts and creativity. In communities that are so beautifully and deeply interwoven, the empowerment of even one individual can lift up an entire village. Makou tells the story of sisterhood, rich in handicraft and steeped in history. Our unique, artisanal pieces celebrate craftsmanship in its innumerable mediums and forms; exploring cultures and opening conversations. Each product is made with traditional skills, a strong identity, and captivating aesthetics which capture and convey the story of every artisan we work with.
