Our Rotary Club runs a registered charitable organisation, the Surfers Sunrise Wheelchair Trust. At our project shed in Arundel, our volunteer workers re-purpose discarded bicycles and use their frames to construct "rough terrain" wheelchairs. These are destined to be sent to developing countries, primarily for disabled children. Well over 11,000 have been despatched so far to some 30 countries.
We also have constructed various buildings that were flat packed and re-erected in places such as Phuket and Samoa after the tsunamis of 2006 and 2009, and recently an X-Ray Unit was installed on Pentecost Island, some 500 Km north of Port Vila, Vanuatu.
