Canberra City Care (Life Unlimited Church)

“Committed to Christ, His Cause and Community” Through Canberra City Care, our church is committed to caring for our community by providing practical assistance to those experiencing a period of financial or emotional hardship. We provide a range of services that assist with immediate and longer term care. HandUp Food Care, Re-Runs Op Shop, the Tech Shed and Christians Against Poverty (CAP) debt management service, have made a significant impact on the lives of people in the Canberra community. HandUp Food Care provides free and low cost food and household items. Membership is $4 per household at the start of each year and customers have access to the store from Tues to Thur each week (10am-12noon and 1-4.30pm). During times of extreme hardship, customers can make an appointment for Emergency Relief and receive assistance with food free of charge. Re-Runs is an op shop providing good quality, low cost clothing to the public. They also provide other household goods like kitchenware, occasional baby items like highchairs . No furniture or electrical items are sold in the store. The Tech Shed operates like a Mens’ Shed, providing a warehouse space where people can be involved in the dismantling, building, recycling and repairing of computers. Donations are received from individuals and businesses throughout the year, and are used to create affordable refurbished computers for low-income earners who would otherwise not be able to buy a computer. CAP provides free in-home support for people struggling with debt and creditors. They work with the client to create a realistic, manageable budget and a plan to repay outstanding moneys to each creditor. CAP provides ongoing support through the management of regular payments and negotiations with each individual creditor.
