Deshan Seniors Community Groups Inc. is a non-profit organisation dedicated to enhancing the well-being and social engagement of Asian and multicultural seniors in the community. Our mission is to foster connection, cultural preservation, and active aging by providing a supportive space where seniors can participate in meaningful activities, build friendships, and access valuable resources. We organise a variety of social, cultural, and recreational programs tailored to the needs of our diverse members, including: Health & Well-being Activities – Tai Chi, gentle exercise, and wellness workshops Social Gatherings & Cultural Celebrations – Traditional festivals, tea gatherings, and group outings Educational & Support Services – Language assistance, technology training, and information sessions on senior care Recreational Activities – Mahjong, calligraphy, music, and arts & crafts Affiliated Organization: Dorset Lodge Deshan Community Groups is affiliated with Dorset Lodge, a 45-bed Supported Residential Service (SRS) in Croydon, Melbourne East. Dorset Lodge provides accommodation and care for individuals facing mental health challenges, social disadvantage, and the impacts of complex life circumstances, including past experiences of family violence. Many Dorset Lodge residents are seniors aged 60-70s, and Deshan plays an active role in supporting social inclusion and engagement through volunteer-led programs, community activities, and cultural events. This partnership aims to enhance residents' quality of life, reduce social isolation, and foster meaningful community connections. At Deshan, we strive to empower Asian and multicultural seniors by promoting a sense of belonging, lifelong learning, and emotional well-being within a culturally inclusive environment. Through strong community partnerships and volunteer support, we aim to reduce social isolation and improve the quality of life for seniors from diverse backgrounds in Australia.
