106 Army Cadet Unit

The Australian Army Cadets (AAC) is a youth development program for young Australians aged between 12 and 18 years. It is a community-based, voluntary organisation that aims to foster leadership, teamwork, self-discipline, and personal development through a variety of military-style training activities, outdoor adventure, and community engagement. The AAC provides a safe and structured environment where cadets can develop practical skills, confidence, and resilience while being supported by trained volunteer staff. Cadets experience a wide range of activities including fieldcraft, navigation, first aid, drill, marksmanship, survival skills, and leadership training. These activities promote physical fitness, problem-solving, and teamwork. The program is designed to be inclusive and accessible, encouraging cadets from diverse backgrounds to participate and grow. While it draws inspiration from military customs and traditions, the AAC is not a military recruitment organisation but a youth development platform that helps cadets build skills transferable to civilian life or future defence careers. Throughout their involvement, cadets have opportunities to attend camps, participate in competitions, community service projects, and special events. Leadership roles within the cadet units allow young people to take responsibility, make decisions, and mentor their peers. Supported by volunteer Army Cadet Staff (ACS), the AAC fosters respect, integrity, and a sense of citizenship, preparing cadets to become confident, capable, and responsible individuals ready to contribute positively to society.
